Rugby Tackle | Health And Safety | Cirencester Personal Trainer
So last week there was a huge discussion regarding rugby and should tackling be alloud under the age of 18 (CLICK HERE), this got me thinking, have we gone health and safety mad. Firstly here are my views on why tackling in rugby should continue and also my alternatives for making the sport safer for children:
1. First and foremost it is sport, at the end of the day within any sport there is a chance of injury.
2. If you leave tackling out of british rugby until the age of 18 we as a country will be lightyears behind when it comes to the sport in general.
3. Once tackling is allowed at the age of 18 the children/young men will not know how to tackle correctly and further injury will follow.
So here is my alternative, why not select children/teens based on the height and weight, not age, that way it would make the game more even and then more equal.
I personally played for my local club as a youth (Cirencester RFC) and tackling wasnt an issue, it was taught safely and everything was controlled.
