Personal training ramble:

Is exercise good for your mental health?

After reading a news article in the Mirror this week (link) stating that too much exercise is bad for your mental health, it got me thinking is this correct or could it have been better explained.

Personally I believe that we need to look further into the idea of restorative exercise, for too long the idea of going 100% has been all the rage, hitting the gym hard and leaving shaking like you’ve had one too many Red Bulls, this is not beneficial in reaching your goals and sooner or later you will hit the wall of fatigue.

Consistency is key, train to a point of where you feel worked but not exhausted, keep your workouts to an hour maximum and make sure that you are getting enjoyment out of what you are doing.

So what is restorative exercise?

Restorative exercise in my mind is exercise that not only works the body but also relaxes the mind, it can be anything from yoga to going out for a walk with the dog, find something you can implement throughout your week which allowing for you to reset, put all your stresses aside and relax, your body will thank you for it.

Enjoy
