Weekend Rundown 007

Hey, its that time of the week again. So I have put together a simple list of our most popular fitness posts from the last seven days, you will also find our most current personal training ramblings below, I hope you enjoy.

Our most popular posts:

Personal training ramble:

Disclaimer, before anyone gets their posing trunks in a twist or starts giving themselves paper cuts with their marathon race number please be aware this is just an opinion not fact.

Firstly lets look at the 10 physical domains of fitness:

Cardiovascular/respiratory endurance — the ability of body systems to gather, process, and deliver oxygen.

Stamina — the ability of body systems to process, deliver, store, and utilize energy.

Strength — the ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply force.

Flexibility — the ability to maximize the range of motion at a given joint.

Power — the ability of a muscular unit, or combination of muscular units, to apply maximum force in minimum time.

Speed — the ability to minimize the time cycle of a repeated movement.

Coordination — the ability to combine several distinct movement pat- terns into a singular distinct movement.

Agility — the ability to minimize transition time from one movement pattern to another.

Balance — the ability to control the placement of the bodies center of gravity in relation to its support base.

Accuracy — the ability to control movement in a given direction or at a given intensity.

Now lets get onto the topic of a fitness professional/personal fitness trainer, both have the word fitness within the title but why is it that time and time again you see said people lack in a vast majority of the above components. Now I/we are not saying that you should be some kind of super human and be able to squat triple body weight and then be able to run a sub 02:30:00 marathon but if you are taking on the title of fitness professional/personal fitness trainer you should be at least have an above average competence/understanding of all fitness domains.

Upon qualifying as a personal trainer/fitness instructor your clients should become number one, your own training should adapt to be able to cater for the vast array of fitness goals/clientele coming to you for advice/training sessions.

So if you are able to deadlift exponential amounts of weight but can't run for a bus I'm afraid to say you

are in no way a fitness professional you are an enthusiast, if you are able to run multiple marathons back to back but can't carry your Waitrose shopping up a flight of stairs you are a fitness enthusiast not a professional and lastly if you can sit at sub 5% body fat but can't tie your own shoe laces due to inflexibility you are again by definition a fitness enthusiast not a fitness professional.

This is also aimed at those who choose to get into the profession as a retirement option, I/we have seen this too many times, the individual who has lost some weight going to her zumba exercise class and now feels she has all of the knowledge needed to help all of her friends down at the bingo hall, or the trainer who has clearly been in the industry for way too long as is stuck in some very old fashioned ways.

Take account and be honest with yourself and your clients, do you portray your working title or are you just an enthusiast making a quick buck.

Enjoy
